Building on Greatness
Not everyone on campus realizes that SSC houses a department solely dedicated to construction project management called Engineering, Design and Construction Services, also known as EDCS. The department’s mission is “building on greatness.” EDCS provides construction project management for campus and helps customers navigate what can be a challenging process. In addition to managing construction, EDCS can provide help to customers in the following areas: cost estimates, cost saving ideas and identifying which firms specialize in certain renovations. EDCS services include helping build/renovate what customers want for projects up to $10 million. They work on main campus, the Health Science Center, Riverside and System-owned properties. The EDCS staff is quite valuable as they know the ins and outs of campus so well. The highly skilled and knowledgeable staff know with whom to coordinate and they interact with a number of stakeholders on campus including, but not limited to, Building Proctors, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), Utilities and Energy Services (UES), CIS, Transportation Services and Telecom.
EDCS has a staff of over 35 professionals, made up of licensed architects and engineers, project managers, inspectors and administrative support personnel.
